|Monday, April 16: Flood Capitol Hill with Justice|
Rally, March and Nonviolent Direct Action to Shut Down the School of the Americas and End U.S. Militarization
Gather on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 12noon at Upper Senate Park (New Jersey Ave and Constitution Ave NW) for a short rally with speakers and music, followed by a march on Capitol Hill and nonviolent direct action.
Join us as we continue to push forward our demands for the closing of the School of the Americas (SOA/ renamed the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, WHINSEC) and an end to U.S. militarization in the Americas. U.S. Militarization in the Americas has increased during the Obama administration, as evidenced by the military coup and the ongoing violence in Honduras, the ever-expanding "War on Drugs," the continuing murders of unionists in Colombia and the construction of new U.S. military bases throughout the hemisphere. It's time for us to step it up, to get anti-militarization on the national agenda in 2012, and to create alliances to stop "teaching democracy" through the barrel of a gun!
Congress continues to fund the training of repressive Latin American military forces at the School of the Americas and relies on "military solutions" for social problems. The decisions made by Members of Congress and their aides are costing lives, and are contributing to more suffering every day. On Monday, April 16, we will will put our bodies on the line and engage in a die-in in front of Congressional offices in Washington, DC. Together we'll re-enact the scene of a massacre to symbolize and commemorate the thousands who have been killed at the hands of U.S.-trained graduates of the SOA/ WHINSEC. We hope you will join us.
We dream, we gather, we act for a new world!
