Call your Representative

You can call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask for your Representative’s office.  If you don’t know who your Representative is, click here to find out.

Here’s a sample script:

Hi, my name is______, and I am a constituent from (your city and state).  I am calling to ask Rep. ____________ to co-sponsor a National Defense Authorization Act amendment introduced by Rep. Tlaib (D-MI), which would prohibit capacity building military aid to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. The amendment specifically addresses military training and equipment in section 333.

Military and police repression and the participation of military and police forces in criminal networks contribute to the need for so many people from the Central America to flee and seek asylum. Prohibiting military training and equipping of the Salvadoran, Guatemalan, and Honduran militaries would be a step towards addressing the root causes of migration from the region, which the Biden Administration has made a priority.

Please contact Andrew Myslik in Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s office to co-sponsor this important amendment. Thank you!

*If your Representative is a co-sponsor of the Berta Caceres Human Rights in Honduras Act, be sure to mention that this amendment is very similar!  It would do some of the same things that the Berta Caceres Act would do and is not limited to Honduras but also includes El Salvador and Guatemala.
